On this episode of the BIGG Success Show, Step Five of our Life Map Course podcast series: Crafting purposeful goals that propel you forward.

BIGG Voice Guy:

BIGG success with The Professor and Mary-Lynn.

George:

We talked with a friend a while back. She told us she had just accepted an offer for a new job.

She was so excited, and this new job would pay substantially more than her old job. Sure, there were other factors to consider, but she just couldn't get over the money. Now she would be making more than she ever dreamed.

Mary-Lynn:

Well, we ran into our friend recently and asked how her new gig was going. And, George, we were shocked because she almost started crying. And she was just miserable.

She's working longer hours, her commute is longer, she's missing a lot of her kids events, and to top it all off, she isn't even enjoying her work.

George:

Yeah, her goals and her purpose are out of line. And as our friend's tale clearly shows, it's a costly problem. It's also the focus of this podcast episode.

Mary-Lynn:

Welcome to the BIGG Success Show where we help you create the life you want. Hi, I'm Mary-Lynn.

George:

And I'm George, The Professor.

Mary-Lynn:

d in our last episode, number:

overed Your Values in episode:

George:

And today, we're taking the next BIGG step by translating all of that clarity into goals that actually can move you forward.

And specifically, we'll be talking about setting goals that align with your mission, reflect your values, and lead you toward the vision that you've created.

Mary-Lynn:

Now, why do goals matter so much, Professor?

George:

Well, goals are the bridge between your dreams and reality. Without goals, even a powerful vision and mission stay stuck in your head. Goals are what turn your purpose into progress.

Mary-Lynn:

And not just any goal will do, right?

George:

That's right, Mary-Lynn. You want aligned goals.

When your goals reflect your vision, mission, and values, you're more motivated, more focused, and more likely to follow through. They feel meaningful, not burdensome, so you don't feel the turmoil that our friend felt with her new job. And here's the thing...

Aligned goals give you traction. They help you say YES to the right things and NO to distractions that pull you off course.

Mary-Lynn:

Alright, so let's talk about how to create aligned goals that work for you.

George:

Yeah. We'll start with what we call the BIGG Success Power Triangle. This is one of the simplest ways to know whether a goal is worth pursuing.

Mary-Lynn:

The BIGG Success Power Triangle asks three questions: Does this goal support my vision? Does it reflect my values? And does it connect to my mission?

George:

And when all three line up, you feel it. You're pulled toward the goal instead of pushed.

Mary-Lynn:

Okay, so let's give an example of a goal that's aligned with the BIGG Success Power Triangle.

George:

So say your vision is to have more time freedom. Your values include family and health, and your mission is to help people grow.

Now, a goal like launching a coaching program with flexible hours that aligns. It supports your vision of time freedom, honors your values by allowing space for family and well being, and connects to your mission of helping people grow.

Mary-Lynn:

But a goal like taking on extra consulting work that demands nights and weekends, well, now that might sound productive. It could bring in extra money. Now you're getting into the trouble that our friend was dealing with.

Because extra money, well, that contradicts your vision, squeezes your family value and may not support your mission. So now it's misaligned.

George:

And that's what so many people miss. A goal can be a good goal on paper, but if it's not aligned, it's just going to drain you. Aligned goals do the opposite.

They give you energy, which we're happy to report our friend is now experiencing this as she landed the job that fits her perfectly.

Mary-Lynn:

Now, once you've taken the time to create an aligned goal, how do you get started on it?

George:

Well, in our BIGG Success Life Map Course, we use milestones. Milestones help you break down those BIGG meaningful goals into doable steps.

A milestone is simply a clear marker along the path, something you reach on the way to the bigger goal.

Mary-Lynn:

Milestones work because they give you quick wins. They keep you motivated because you can see progress, even if the BIGG goal will take time.

George:

For example, if your goal is to write a book, a milestone might be: outline the chapters. Another milestone: write the first thousand words. Another one: finish chapter one. Each milestone tells your brain, "Hey, I'm moving forward."

It builds confidence and keeps momentum alive.

Mary-Lynn:

And this is why milestones are so important. When you only focus on the final result, it feels overwhelming.

Milestones break the journey into steps you can actually accomplish and celebrate all along the way.

George:

Exactly. Milestones turn goals into action, and they keep you from drifting because each one you complete brings you closer to your vision.

Mary-Lynn:

Now, there are three common challenges to watch out for when setting your goals. Challenge number one: Setting too many goals.

George:

When everything is important, nothing is important. Pick the goals that matter most and let the rest wait.

Mary-Lynn:

Challenge number two: Setting goals based on others' expectations.

George:

You don't want to set a goal that isn't based on your own vision, values and mission. If a goal doesn't resonate with you emotionally, you won't stick with it.

Mary-Lynn:

And challenge number three: The all or nothing trap. You feel like if you miss a day then you failed.

George:

It's normal to fall off track. Remember, progress isn't linear. Your goal is to keep moving, not to be perfect.

Mary-Lynn:

Because setting aligned goals is so important, we've created a download for you to go with this episode.

This one sheet will help you turn your vision, mission and values into focused, meaningful actions by giving you a simple framework to choose the right goals. Find the link to get it with the show notes.

George:

And don't forget, your BIGG Assignment: Take just 10 minutes this week to write down three goals that align with your vision, values and mission. Then break each one into two or three small action steps and pick one.

Mary-Lynn:

Action you can do today. Something small that moves you toward one of those goals.

George:

BIGG Success comes from small steps taken consistently.

Mary-Lynn:

So far in the Life Map Course podcast series, you've learned how to understand where you are, picture where you're going, stay grounded in what matters, and connect to your why. And now, with clear goals, you you've started turning your intentions into action.
